Malcolm Turnbull defended by Tony Abbott

Another battle has launched over the Turnbull government's direction. Former prime minister Tony Abbott has used a guest appearance at a branch meeting in the electorate of Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar to bash Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's second budget and call on members to rise up against the Liberal Party's direction.

Fairfax Media has obtained audio of Mr Abbott's made a string of critical speech to Liberals, in which he expressed Turnbull government ministers did not believe in the "second-best, taxing and spending" budget.

 The former PM told that the Liberal Party needed help "so that we can be what we really are", and said Australians had too long tolerated the persons who did not share the basic God-given values.
